Why a home family photography session is always a good idea

When it comes to capturing your family, I know it’s a difficult choice of whether to venture outdoors, head to a studio or stay at home for a cosy lifestyle session.

As a baby and family photographer, I love when a family chooses to have their photography session at home. There’s something so magical about capturing your life where it happens and documenting it is as it is right now—a big family snuggle on the sofa, your little ones jumping around in their favourite PJs, playing with favourite toys and perhaps a kitchen dance party.

I thought I would talk about why home sessions are always perfect for your family and some common worries people have about using thier homes.

This little lady had just started crawling and loved roaming around on her parent’s bed

1. With a home session there’s no need to worry about introducing your little one to a new environment

or trying to get everyone to relax in an unfamiliar space.

You are in your space with everything to hand should you need a tea and snack break, to burn off some energy and plus having all your creature comforts such as your little one’s favourite toys and books.

2. They really aren’t little for long - there’s only a finite time they’ll be wearing their favourite PJs, have an amazing sea themed nursery or playing diggers.

Capture this time, as in years to come you’ll look back at your pictures and be transported back to this time in your home.

3. I often hear from families and friends that they worry their homes aren’t suitable—whether they feel there is not enough natural light, a main bedroom that is too small, or need to finish decorating.

We only need two or three spots in your home, such as a well-lit bedroom, sitting room, and perhaps a kitchen or your child’s room. it doesn’t matter what size the room is - we’ll capture some beautiful pictures of your family.

PLus if it’s a nice day, we can pop into the garden or a nearby park for some pictures.

We’ll have a chat beforehand to plan your session, discussing which rooms to use and when they have the best natural light for your shoot.

Additionally, I’ll provide a Session Guide with all the information you need to know, along with Wardrobe Advice—like adding light linen to your bed to maximise light.

Also, don’t worry about tidying too much; I might move the odd object to avoid distractions from you and your family, but I’ll always move them back afterwards.

4. Less pressure and more fun!

Being at home, there is no rush, weather worries or pressure to behave in a certain way - Your session becomes a chance to hangout and play.

I’ll be there to guide you as much or as little as you need, but my goal is always to make sure you feel relaxed, and full of moments, when you’re just being yourselves, as that’s when the best photos happen!

Along with capturing a few lightly posed shots, which make perfect gifts for loved ones.

So, if you’ve been thinking about scheduling a family session, why not consider your home?
